times change... but don't dwell on it

Kieron
not everything is dark

The star fire was beginning to sink below the horizon and kieron noticed that the trails of the forest were becoming dank. it was best if they started moving inland. if they were lucky, maybe the stark contrast of the night sky would reward them with some diamonds against the dark cloth. the ruby hued stallion loved to stargaze when the opportunity presented itself.

He listened quietly to the dappled vixen and her lyrics. to him, it sounded like traveling hadn't been her thing. maybe it was meant for some and not others. kieron knew that he, himself, wouldn't mid a little traveling, with the right mate of course. he had done it for a time, alone, after the epidemic that forced him to leave his home.

Yscha inquired about him, and his past. avoiding the question at the moment, he responded with an indirect aswer, not even relevant to the topic.

"We should probably head back towards the inland meadow. it could be a wonderful night to gaze at the cosmos."

His past was a touchy subject. at least when inquired about it. he wasn't still completely healed over what had happened. how can you just pick up from where you left off? having put everything you are into building a herd, a family that's yours. and then within one flick of a tail, it's all swept away and you are left with just the casing of a hollow body. nothing to live for anymore.

The walk back to the prairie was full of silence and a lot of thoughts processing in the king's cranium.

Knowing yscha hadn't meant anything by her question, just curious to know her king, the crimson brute sighed. halting at the very brink of the tree line and meadow, he turned to face the girl.

"My herd, my family, my soulmate, were all killed off my a virus epidemic, spread by a personal arch nemesis. i was off in battle, ad when i came back..., when i am back, i spent the rest of my better half's breathes with her. watching her inhale and exhale her life away."

The emptiness filled him again, having heard that if one spoke of pent up issues, it helped the healing process. but he strongly disagreed. forgetting his surroundings, he let his massive hoof leave a forceful indent in the floor. having talked about the incident had only brought back the rage and anger he had felt and the hatred that had consumed him for the following year of being a lone and lonely bachelor. fighting against the urge to call it quits.

For the first time, in a while, the fire that had been only embers, now a flurry of flames that lit up his features. towers melting to his skull, his pools landed on yscha, and for a second, her innocent features reminded him of an angel and the fire in him subsided. the cool of the night felt like a cool bath, and slowly he came back down to reality.

But his facet wrote not to mention anything about his past not being his fault. because he knew it was. he felt like he was being evaded by his own memory and that he was missing something t the story of events that had taken place. he hoped, in time, he would be able to remember. but for now, he needed something to distract him from his memories, so he focused his attention on the lovely lady in front of him.
