Well this lady was intimidated by them, and had no idea she had to get any "proof", she assumed they would handle it. One of the state biologists is looking into this, and is very interested. She has spoken to the lady and will again. She did tell me she does not dispute the presence of mountain lions in VT, but doesnt think there is a breeding population. Thats quite in contrast to my conversation with the game warden, who was not very informed. He stated that the CT one hit on the road was a "released pet", and they determined that by DNA. Clearly we all know that not to be the case. FYI in a newspaper survey in Litchfield Cty Ct, they did a poll as to how many people thought mountain lions were present. Only 5% said no, 30% had sighted one. Assuming 70% of those were misidentified, that leaves a whole lot of sightings folks. Also the lady that reported this mentioned DNA to me. Replies:
