not everything is dark

Kieron
not everything is dark

A rough red coat, filled with white splotches; tufts of white that had grown in place of bite marks from battles won, and some lost. His pelt covered his entire torso, fading into socks on all four limbs. A mid-length tail was lifeless as his movements were soft, sinking hooves cutting through the floor of the soiled ground. He hadn’t been the only one who had vanished for a time. His Ms. Avasha had seemed to slink into her own shadows as well. That was on his agenda for the day. Locating Avasha, as he wanted to account for all of them, making sure they were all right, and he missed her company.

It was true, and weird all at the same time, that a stallion should find comfort in having a harem, when the humans mainly stuck to a monogamous relationship. He couldn’t explain the ways of the wild, and it was probably a good thing. Leave that to the philosophers of the world. They seemed to get a kick out of that stuff anyway.

The sun was high in the sky, and the soil was beginning to feel solid once again. The storm that had passed through had been a nasty one. Soaking the land, literally almost drowning the meadow. Because of the low sea level, Kieron wondered sometimes how long this island would last. He had heard stories of a sixth island that had once been apart of this realm of isles. And being that this was the one isle that had been its neighbor, it did worry him, though not a lot. There was plenty of high ground that was spread out.

As he entered the clearing, he could just make out a black silhouette across the way, and he let a rippling nicker echo, flowing to the mistress’s auditors. Picking up the pace, he started off in her direction, eager to be in her company again. She was not feisty with the energy of the younger women of the land, but he appreciated it. It needed some ‘adult’ atmosphere sometimes.

Nearing her body, he gave a warm welcome, with the rub of his muzzle up against hers.

"I have missed your presence among the forest. Tell me, is there anything I should be concerned about? Or if you need something, please let me know."

His look was soft and searching. Hoping he would learn of something that seemed to have been kept hidden. It didn’t seem like anything too serious, but all the same, the matters that concerned each individual of his herd was a matter he concerned himself with.
