not everything is dark

not everything is dark

The forest king nodded in understanding to Vi. How was she supposed to know? Only having met, he couldn’t expect all his mare’s to just know things about him. And it was probably for the best that they didn’t. His past wasn’t something he liked to relive. It had gotten easier to forget it, push it aside and let it fade. But it seemed to always come back and haunt him. In whatever fashion, it seemed to always be lurking in the shadows when he least expected it. And it wasn’t just the big things that triggered the flood of memories to resurface, but just the little everyday occurrences, words spoken, or questions asked.

So with Vi’s curiosity on him ever having foals, he fought back the water droplets that threatened with stinging saltiness at the back of his orbs. Sure, he had had little brats and imps running around, causing havoc wherever their tiny hooves seemed to leave an imprint in the soil. He had had a big family… He had started young, and had slowly built up his family. But it had all been stripped from him. Like it had just been a nightmare that seemed too real to believe.

Sighing, his visage drooped so his nape was level with his withers. Auds hung lazily, flopped over like a rabbits, and his orbs suddenly lost all alertness and the bright liveliness they had just held a moment ago. Vivianna was so young. There was so much life before her still, as if he didn’t. But he had already spent three years building a family, and for what? To now only suffer in agony at the thought of his past memories.

He didn’t feel there was any need to put his past burdens on anyone else. He had told one mare, and it had only led to his disappearance. Something he could not let happen again. So with refined poise, but still lack of the bliss he once held, he let his pools wander back to Vi’s gaze, and half smiled, nuzzling her with great affection.

"Yes, dear Vi, I have had foals before. Though none of which I dare say should be more trouble some than our daughter."

He gave a half forced laugh at the thought. He had been quite lonely for sometime, maybe with foaling season just around the bend, maybe, just maybe, his spirits would fully be healed.
