What if tomorrow never comes?

This was not how things were supposed to have gone. Where was Badr, why was this happening? Chimeras could not believe that a youngster was in charge now. It didn't seem right at all. This boy sure had his work cut out for him now didn't he? Coming in after the leave of Badr, the grand stallion that had become her world. Yes, the colt sure had something to look toward doing if he thought to survive here in the Dunes. Chimeras would not just waltz into a life with a stranger and he expect that she'd be all 'hunky dory.' No, life didn't work that way, and neither did her mind.

Having heard the call, Chimeras was not sure she wanted to respond to it. Brulee had perked his ears though and lifted his muzzle. Those rich brown eyes of the buckskin's own. He watched his mother and wondered what they were going to do. With a sigh, Chimeras gently nudged his cheek and moved. Come on Brulee, mind as well go see what this colt wants. Yes, she had called him a colt, this is what he was after all. There was no stallion about this young boy, and that much the Perlino dun did know. She wondered what he could possibly be thinking in that young mind of his. Coming into a territory that he probably had no business running. It was amusing really if you thought about it. Well, Chimeras thought so anyway.

Thinking about him, it didn't help matters any. Brulee asked constantly where his father was. Not that he knew him as that. Mother told him it was so but then, they'd never really spent any time together. The boy only knew to call him father, but he never spoke with him. Pity really, the two should have been really close. Chimeras wondered what went through Badr's mind to leave them like this, it didn't seem right at all. Sighing quietly, she shook her head as she approached him. He was another golden creature and a soft chuckle left her lips. The sound was dry and eery though, nothing pleasant much about it. What reason had the Perlino dun to be happy about? Brulee might not be so sad but then, he'd barely known the guy but in a name and face. Chimeras had grown fond of Badr, and even felt she had loved him. Then, he'd gone and abandoned them all. Something she never thought could have happened with him.

They were not the first to approach, Vesti and Grai were there now too. They had only just arrived moments before Brulee and Chimeras had though, she'd seen this. The skeletal mare and the boy were there of course, he whom had called them. Her pale eyes studied him curiously as she moved up alongside Vesti and grunted lightly. Nothing is said for the moment while she waits, wondering. What now? No, it is Brulee whom speaks up.

I'm Brulee, son of Badr and Chimeras. Who are you? She cringed as the stallion's name was spoken but remained quiet. She did not feel the moments right to speak just yet. This was all so odd, it didn't fit well into her mind. A new start but then, what did that mean for any of them? Brulee was only a spring younger than this colt and so, he was still a boy himself. He was old enough to be weaned but then, this colt had better not be keen on kicking either of the boys out. Chimeras was sure that Vesti wouldn't have that either. Time would tell what might happen though. It normally went that way.
