Right in the head or not, family is family. This is what Blackmore was taught the very first day he took a breath of air from a new world, this is what he was taught before his spindly little legs could get beneath him in an attempt to stand. This is what the herd lived by, a code that seemed to be nothing more then a lie when those "imperfect" members seemed to just disappear into the night. Runaways they were cold, but the scent of death could not so easily be masked and day after day, Blackmore and his dam feared for the life of the youngster, Legion. This is his little brother, his favorite little brat, his favorite best friend, he couldn't dare lose him because their father believed him to be nothing more but a bruised apple among prestine crop. No, it would have been more painful to lose Legion then to run with him and keep him safe. Blackmore knows that Legion does not believe this, he knows that Legion continues to struggle with the trauma that night, fighting over whether he was worth it and whether he was to stay. Blackmore knows how to read Legion like an open book, and perhaps this is the reason Blackmore is such a great brother to the little bay stallion. He can see what Legion struggles with and he does his best to pull Legion from the dark, to try and show him the light of the future. It may be a struggle for a better life, but together they can make it, Blackmore is sure of that. Legion is about the only thing that keeps him confident, without the little guy by his side he feels like nothing more then an awkward school boy on the first day of a new school.

Softly the black reaches out towards Legion, tugging at his brother's mane in a playful fashion as he pretends to pull Legion out of the thicket with enthusiasm. He is tired, wanting to rest but even he finds the prospect of leading a herd exciting. Finally, after years of abuse and being beaten into submission, he has a chance to prove that his father will not be a tyrant through his sons. Finally he gets to give Legion a life that is normal and not under the scrutinizing gaze of the intimidating black stallion that liked to loom over them constantly. No, they got to finally live a normal life thanks to the valiant and brave mare that was their mother. Blackmore knows she would do the same thing time and time again if it meant her babies were free from tyranny, and this meant the world to him. "Home, at least, with each other we can make it home, yes? No more minding our 'manners'... no more feeling like we're always being watched. We have freedom..." His words are true and there is the tone of newfound life caressing each word, but that cannot hide the twinge of sadness as the word 'freedom' reminds me constantly of the price they both paid for this new home. "This is what she wanted for us... you know that, right? She wanted you to have a normal life... us to have a normal life. She wanted... us to not worry about being ruined by fear of him... she made sure you and I got out... and now, perhaps, she is the guardian angel looking out for our good fortunes now..." His tone is soft as his muzzle burries into the winter coat of the bay, nuzzling him softly and with reassurance as he lets out a soft sigh, expelling the emotions that spoke of pain, but also spoke of thankfulness towards their mother. She would not wish to die in vain, she told Blackmore that herself, he just didn't believe it would be so soon.

"Come... there's an entire other level to this place. It's well protected with different caverns from what I saw up here... protected from most of the harsh elements like the wind... sure is pretty in the snow, huh?" Blackmore couldn't help but grin broadly as he nudged Legion towards a less trecherous path down the ridge and into the main pass, he felt so small in a place so big, it made him feel safe and hopefully made Legion feel the same.
