You can't take the sky from me

Life usually never goes as planned, but for to say that it had gone at all according to plan for the half blanketed one would be an understatement. Life had been going according to her parent’s plans, but never to hers. She was so innocent. She had obeyed every order and every request her family had made. Serenity never dreamed of what was beyond her own home. Why would she? Nobody else in her family did. They were all content to be sheep. They thought of nothing but the future breeding pair. They started grooming her at birth for her eventual pairing. That was, until the outsider came.

When the outsider came her family started to panic. They closed ranks and tried extremely hard to push him out, but he didn’t seem to get the hint or he simply didn’t care. While all that she knew were fighting him, she reached out to him and it was through him she learned there was so much more outside her door. She began asking her family questions and they tried to tie her down. They tried to remind her of her duties but she didn’t care. Her curiosity had been awakened and she wasn’t about to put back in the box. Her family wanted her too and they wanted her to put a nice little bow on it. They wanted her to forget all about it, but she refused.

Serenity would often sneak off to see the stallion that wandered close to them. Luckily for her, he never took advantage of their solitude. In fact, it was the opposite. He thought of her like a sister and allowed her to follow where he wandered, as long as it was close to home. Serenity hadn’t quite found the courage to leave. She was still warring within herself about leaving or about staying. She knew her family had great plans for her, but she has finally been awakened to all that surrounded her and she wasn’t ready to put all that back on a shelf. She wanted to know what was out there.

And as is usually the case, all good things come to an end. Her ‘brother’ took his leave after trying to get her to follow. Even now she beats herself up for letting him go without her. She had adored him. He had showed her a whole new world and she would have loved to have gone many adventures with him, but perhaps this worked out better for her. This was an experience she needed to go through herself. It was time she stopped depending on others and it was time she found her own voice.

Of course, she had just been about to leave her small little clearing, but then a soft voice reached her ears. Turning around again to find the source, she smiles happily. She was surprised to see that the other lady was just as small as she was, if not a bit smaller. It was nice to know that as far as height goes, she isn’t alone in the short department. Her coat color was perhaps a bit darker as well but she seemed to be a lovely creature. Quiet perhaps, but there was nothing wrong with that. It might be a nice opposite from the half blanket mare. She notices that the other doesn’t come too close and tilts her head at this. If there is one thing to be said about Serenity, it is that she has no bubble. She isn’t aware of personal space, so the other standing so far throws her off but she shrugs it off and steps just a little bit closer. The other seemed very bird like in her movements and seemed almost afraid of her if not just nervous and the dear didn’t want to send her flying.

“Ah! Please don’t apologize! I have been seeking someone’s company for sometime now and I am extremely happy to see another face. The trees here are delightful, but I do greatly appreciate the company of another equine. My name is Serenity. Tell me, what is yours and are you new to the forest? Oh! You must be if you've seen the ocean quite recently. I am so sorry. I'm quite new at this whole meeting other people thing. Forgive me my blunders.” Her words come spilling out in a flurry of excitement. She might have messed up with the other mare, but she was going to make sure that things went well with this one. At least, she hoped she could make things go well with this one.
