If you ever get a chance to see Sue Morse and her presentation, she has taken photos (35mm camera!) over several decades of cougars in the wild. Truly amazing. She tracked them and was up close and personal. It sure dismisses any theory that they randomly attack humans. She is stating regardless of the cougar population now, (she doesnt want to get into the fray), we will have a breeding population in the Northeast within 20 years. This is her page:
