i refuse to sink

They lingered there, the pair of them, at the edges of the herd. Both seemed miserable. Once again it seemed the twins had lost a mother. To them, Vivi and Yscha were both their parents in some strange sense, and it saddened them, most of all it saddened Abbott for he was quite fond of the painted mare. Yes, it had been the kind mare Vivi who had left, along with their other sibling Lily. Now they only had the dappled mare to cling to, but it seems she too is missing. They had no need for her milk at all, if she even had any. The twins had soon taken to grass, perhaps lifting a burden off any of the mothers that were around. Less mouths to feed.

nibbling at the grass around her hooves, Co moves slowly away from the sleeping black colt propped up by a single pine. Abbott had exhausted himself the day before, his long legs frantically carrying him through the forest as he had searched for his favorite mother. The filly lifted her head and offered him a tiny smile. They had faced loss before, so she knew they'd get through this again. Turning back to her grazing path, her eyes catch the coat of the dun stallion, who seemed to never take interest in the children in his home. She's seen him once or twice, but that was simply through the trees, she never dared to approach. Today was going to be different, she decided.

Her long slender legs carried her through the other bodies of mares, eyes on the brute ahead. If she were still a mere little foal still she'd never attempt this, but she was growing. Where Abbott seemed to take on a more heavier side to him, she gained more of her mothers elegant nature. Her gait seemed graceful enough, steps seeming as light as a feather as she weaved through bodies. He got closer, and she stopped, watching as he greeted a mare of the herd. Her small face lifted upwards, rich brown orbs staring at him warily. She was not at all going to stand being ignored by him anymore.

Stamping a hoof, she gave a snort, the only way she knew how to gain his attention. Words were useless here. Her look was one of determination as her ears strained forward toward him. What would he say to a filly like her? but the voice she heard didn't sound quite like him, and was far to feminine. Leaning to the right, she peaks at the other side of the brute. A mare stood there, and her rambling caused Co to flatten her dark ears. Of course he was paying attention to a lady who could actually talk. Urging up her courage again, she moved closer, near his shoulder. Her eyes stared long and hard at his face. She was half his size, but yet him still being taller didn't cause her to stumble away, she held her ground.
