"The crude mortality of man."

all men are mortal
In the quiet of the forest it was easy for one to get lost in the silence sometimes. When the winds ran still and the sun started to dip across the sky, it took no effort for the trees to act as a buffer between the heart of the forest and the ocean, giving the land a feeling of pure muteness that would be enough to drive one made. Standing next to the grey mare, one of the stallion's ears flicks to one side, straining slightly in an attempt to listen for the soft hiss of the sea not too far from where they are.

While the sound struggles to reach them through the trees, the soft song of the water is still hanging quietly in the air, and it seems to be enough to lull the dappled mare into a soft slumber as the sun starts to tumble away into the distant horizon. As Yscha sleeps, Vercingetorix finds his eyelids beginning to betray him by beginning to droop. While his companion finds her rest easily, the red dun is already seeing shapes and colours the run away at the front of his mind. Nightmares and dreams that remind him of a time long past that continued to plague him. Feeling his muscles twitch mercilessly against the clutch of the dream, the stallion awakens with a start, leaning away from Yscha's sleeping body and finding a soft lather of sweat had worked it's way across his shoulders and his back.

When she awakens and reaches towards him with a soft question, Vercingetorix reaches back towards her, letting his nose pass her muzzle and brush against her cheek when he answers her. “A while, I think.” Breathing in her scent for a couple moments, the stallion shifts his weight away from her again, pulling his away with a little sigh before trying to excuse himself. “I have to go, sleep well.” Turning from the mare, the red dun feels the soft brush of the wind against his sweating skin and it chills him to the bone before he takes off into the trees.
