GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
the world is on my side

Typically, the blanketed stallion was never too far from Lilika, as she was his only companion. This fact did not bother him, for being apart from her was a very odd feeling. Though he had not come outright to say it to her, Gnome was in love with Lilika, and he knew that she felt the same way. Neither had to state it to the other; it was just a reality to the both of them, and throughout the mild winter they lived in a contented state with more than enough nourishment and warmth to thrive.

On the day of the spring blizzard, Gnome was uncharacteristically away from Lily’s side inspecting his borders with the other stallions on the island. When the snow had first begun, he was unconcerned. It seemed mild, if a bit windy, and he assumed that he would quickly be able to return to Lilika after completing his patrol. However, the wind had quickly accelerated, and his efforts to make his way back to a sheltered area were in vain. Rather than risk becoming enveloped in the snow, he found a decent tree to stand under and hoped with all his might that she would be capable of weathering the storm on her own.

The immediate aftermath of the storm was a blur, with Gnome having found a shaken Lilika wandering aimlessly to stay warm. Since then, he had stayed closer than ever, making his border checks less and less frequently as the mare swelled with their child. Of course, he gave her alone time once in awhile, thought it was very reluctantly. On these occasions, he often laid flat in the long grass; he was close enough to quickly arrive if needed but far enough to give the illusion of privacy.

As the blue roan relaxed under her cherry tree, Gnome was to be found in a similar position: perhaps a few hundred feet from her, laying down but not sprawled as usual. There was something peculiar about today. He glanced up to the sky, cloudless and serene. Just a faint breeze swept across the prairie and pushed the long grasses into a soft rustle. Nothing detectable was amiss, and therefore he was taken by surprise when a shriek rent the placid air. He scrambled to his hooves, his eyes wider than usual, and scanned the area first for predators, then – finding none – for Lilika. Without any hesitation, he quickly made his way to her and looked her over. Finding nothing outwardly wrong, he asked, “What’s wrong?”
