Washed Away

Nimbus

Nimbus continued to walk as the red roans exchanged a few words, but a few words peaked his interest. With a flick of his tale he spoke. "It is best that you don't trust me. In a heartbeat I can change and rearrange for better or for worse. You ought not put faith in something you can't predict." The next words directed to him were interesting. Not because they were a display of excellent word-smithing, but because of the drastic change in mood. Maybe others weren't as predictable as he credited them to be, but they were still far different than himself. They could boil over as was just displayed and they could cool down, but they would always return to a base state. He asked himself if he had base mood, but doubted it. Wouldn't he have found solace at equilibrium by now? Nimbus acknowledged Kahawa's calm amend. "No need for apologies. Your father deserved your support."

Walking towards the sea a gust of salty wind rushed into Nimbus's nose and through his mane. The waves splashed against the sand quietly, but ever present. A body found its way beside his. What was this idea she wanted to suggest? A remedy for his emotions evidently, but why would this gentle wave be something to be afraid of? He would have asked why, but she seemed determined to force words from her lips. She certainly managed to.

The words hit Nimbus like a brick wall. "Having a kid. That is your solution?" He sputtered the first words which came to his mind. "Was one of the conditions we made before I brought you here not to do exactly that? Have I not proven I would make an awful father with the events which unfolded today?" It may have been true that he might only be able to manage this herd with a stallion of his own, but he did not need help. The way she kept her voice low and calm allowed him to consider this proposal with a level head. He worked out what she was getting at aloud. "An attempt to find someone who could work with my sporadic emotions and to entertain Kahawa..." It seemed far fetched.

She would do most of the work: the pain of bearing the foal and the tedious task of raising it. If it was a child she wanted he could not refuse her one, but he could postpone it. Not knowing how to properlly display sympathy he gently grazed his head against her flank. "Maybe once I craft a decent herd, then we might have a child. I do not need help right now, all I have is the two of you." He was gentle just in case she wanted a dependent little child to care for. That seemed so unlikely, though.

"You know I am strong enough to keep this herd together," just to prove himself he continued. "If anything, I let that 'crazy guy' off easy." His goal in getting Amour away was to own this territory alone until he needed help; to shape it in his own image before asking for assistance. Nimbus felt he made that clear. So what were her intentions in this offer if she didn't want a foal? How could he find out? "You've asked a stallion who doesn't know your name to give you a child; whether you have one or not, could you at least tell me that?" He began to pry at this hidden reasoning. "I don't understand why specifically you might want a child. Would you enlighten me?"
