In her torrid state, Nymeria did not notice the absence of her twin daughters. She did, however, notice the red stallion coming near with his head hanging low and his ears pricked forward with curiosity. No doubt he had smelled the sweat and blood on her. She knew it was inevitable that he would come and investigate their son some time, but the mare was uncertain she wanted him so close so soon, with the colt barely steady on his feet and wetness still drying beneath her tail. Still trembling, she instinctively kicked out half-heartedly with one hind leg, hitting nothing but air and disturbing her son's suckling, and pinned her ears atop the grey mess of her mane in warning. The soot-colored colt had looked up at this interruption, however, and peered at the imposing form of his father with glassy black eyes.
Nymeria's head spun. When the tawny-colored whirlwind that was Brynja's daughter arrived, planting herself between Nym and Torix, she could feel the little body of her son tense. The dapple grey mare tensed also. But unlike her son, who was now cautiously approaching the older filly on unsteady striped legs, she remained in place, casting a wary glance first in Muerdago's direction to make sure the girl was behaving, then across the clearing towards the ruddy figure of Brynja. Nymeria snorted, and continued to meet the mare's eyes for several long moments, noting how she did not approach. For that she was glad; she was not sure she could handle so many bodies pressing in her space right now, especially given their unresolved conflict. But still she worried.
