Where Are Your Angels Now?

The name ĘGLĘCA means both "hero" and "monster". Considering our two main characters represent angels and demons, literally the light and the dark, we thought that having a name that meant both would be fitting. Though just because the "hero" is usually the good guy, don't assume that our hero's are the angels.

Less than a hundred years ago Barak and Nereza gave birth to twins, one palomino and one pitch black, both colts. It's highly uncommon for a mare to give birth to twins, and the process killed Nereza. That was not the only consequence they suffered though. The palomino colt, Daevas, was born much weaker than his sibling, Och. Perhaps this was what started all of this, the jealousy in Daevas that created what haunts the land today. No one can pin an exact point in the young stallions life that made him break, but it was sometime before their sixth winter together. As customary for colts, both Daevas and Och were kicked out from the herd upon their third winter. It was rough for both of them, having grown accustom to being taken care of by the herd, but it was rougher on Daevas. He almost died, but it seemed like someone was standing over his shoulder, pushing him further. Like when he had found that cave in the midst of a heavy blizzard, the one that they never would have found if it hadn't been for Daevas tripping and literally almost falling into it. Still, the presence did not reveal itself to Daevas. Perhaps because it was aware of the presence that followed Och.

While stallions do not usually find comfort in the company of one another, it seemed that the two young males were reluctant to part. They simply didn't, staying together until the presences that now lived inside them decided it was time to start taking control of things. The angels were the first to strike, as expected, angels are fairly impatient beings. It was surprisingly easy to get inside Daevas' head, perhaps not just because he was weak, but he already was jealous of his brother. Och, on the other hand, had no wish to harm the brother that was already so sick. This was only shortly before the time that they finally split up, leaving Daevas to plan revenge and Och to teach the demons a thing or two about being kind.

Even on separate journeys, the presences inside of them stuck with them. Because they had to or because they wanted to is not known to us. Every other animal recognized them as some sort of deity, and worshipped the ground they walked on. Both were very old when news of the whereabouts of Och reached Daevas, and the palomino stallion set out immediately. When they finally came face to face though, Och was nearly unrecognizable to his brother. His pure black hide was now the color of snow. Daevas immediately scorned him for this, striking out at his brother.

The end of the battle was never witnessed by anothers eyes, but both stallions were gone without a trace afterwards. And thus angels became darkness, demons were light, and those who chose to align themselves with neither were shunned.
