open up like hearts

The silvery woman is reassured when she glimpses Gnome making his way to her, regaining a measure of her lost confidence. A smile curls the corners of her lips upward as she watches him pause momentarily at their daughter, and her chest swells with love, and pride, as he gently touches the blanket that Iris had inherited from him. The lacey white stockings creeping up her legs likewise resemble the colorful stallion's; only the darker hue of her coat is gained from her mother's genes, and even that is softened to a deep, almost-black brown that lightens into russet in some places.

Lilika doesn't mind that the filly's appearance favors her sire's genes; her joy at having this daughter to share with Gnome is nothing short of profound, and all the more increased for her almost-fatal labor. Iris's birth has reawakened a lesson she had once learned from the boy with the blanket: to live for each moment. To revel in the golden glow of every sunset, to savor the sensation of the humid, heavy air being pushed in and out of her lungs. To bask in the warmth of the man who moves to stand beside her, her lips brushing briefly across his cheek in an affectionate greeting.

Drawn from the depths of her reflection by Gnome's question, Lilika's attention returns to the pale stranger, her ears pushing forward inquisitively; though the quiet mare is not as forthright as her beloved, she shares his curiosity. The woman with the soft, gentle dark eyes doesn't look like it at the moment, but she'd had to make her own difficult journey to arrive where she is now. Leaving the shelter and security of her dependent lifestyle had been frightening, but such hardship had ended in happiness for her. And though she does not know this Jessamine, Lilika hopes, as the mare introduces herself and explains that she is lost, that her journey will end the same way. Her expression grave and her gaze sympathetic, Lilika reaches forward to touch her muzzle to Jessamine's shoulder consolingly as she responds.

"That must have been a frightening trial to endure. It would be unwise to continue your search in this condition, perhaps you should remain here and rest for awhile-?" her question, and her eyes (which have now flicked to capture Gnome's gaze) are a gentle prompt for her beloved to step in with an offer of sanctuary. Lilika doesn't doubt that he will extend the same kindness to Jessamine that he has had once shown to a gangly, dark young filly lost out in the vast world.
