aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

It had been a few days since the pack meeting and Hellene had seen neither hide nor hair of any of the adult wolves – except for the two pups she had been hoping to turn into her family of course. The pack had been rather quiet, and the timberess wondered whether it was the calm before the storm. She had caught drift of bits of whispers – that there was a family at the border who, as it turns out, were love children of Kalgalath’s from years ago that he did not know existed. And their mother, herself, it seemed had also returned. How close they had been or if there were still feelings between them, Hellene did not know, nor would she pry into their business. But it certainly did not bode well for Zig. The usually quiet and serene fae clearly had feelings for the Alpha – it could be seen in the way she looked at him. And it seemed as if he returned the feelings. But if he still had feelings for his ex-lover…

The fae shook her head and raised herself onto her four paws, shaking out her pelt, a few stray needles loosening themselves. Setting her nares to the ground, she began to sniff out her friend, Leila. She felt a need to first and foremost congratulate her ebony friend, for Leila had received the rank of Zeta. Honestly, it was no surprise to Hellene. Leila and Kalgalath were very close and the fae always had a calming effect on him, even when he was at his grumpiest. Still, there were words that could be said in congratulations. As she travelled through the terra, she kept her pace slow and leisurely, stopping occasionally to inhale deeply, tasting all of the scents that were around her. The dew on the early morning grass. The firs that were so abundant within the borders. The various lupines who called this place home.

A smile came to her lips, tight lipped though it was. Surprise still hung over her like a blanket that she had searched out a pack and had joined it on her own free will. After being forced to join her previous pack by her sister, it was a small wonder that she had chosen this lifestyle for herself. But she was glad, oh so glad that she had done so – this was her home now, and it was all starting to come together for her. She was making a new start for herself, starting by adopting the two pups that she had grown so fond of, both of which had accepted her proposal. Would she look for a mate soon? Perhaps not. That could wait – males were often more of a cumbrance than an asset, at least when feelings were involved.

Upon inhaling once more, she finally came upon a scent that she not only recognized, but that she had been hoping to find: Leila. Hellene’s plume began to sway with excitement and her pack quickened, her long limbs stretching out to lengthen her stride. Surprisingly, she was led to the same clearing where the entire pack had gathered so recently, and into her muddy visionaries came the black ess, sunning herself in the center of it. Immediately hunkering down, the russet and grey lupine crept forward silently. Or rather, she thought herself to be silent. Her paw steps were quiet to be sure, but Hellene had never been one for subtlety and had no knowledge of the grace of stealth. And so it was that every other step was accompanied by a noise of some sort – a rustle of dried needles, a twig breaking, a tiny rodent screeching its protest as she tred upon the entrance to its den.

Finally, upon reaching Leila, she leapt, aiming to land just short of the fae. She relaxed her joints and upon impact she collapsed in a heap. “Hiya Leila. Enjoying the sunlight? And remember what we talked about, about me making a family? Well both Destan and Khaleesi said yes! I’m a mother! Can you believe it? And by the way I’m so proud of you for getting ranked, you really deserve it – Kalgalath really trusts you a lot.” As per her usual self, her voice was loud, her words continually tumbling out of her mouth.
