GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
the world is on my side

In the moments before she woke, Gnome watched the rich brown sides of his daughter rise and fall steadily, his eyes still containing the slightest glimmer of worry they always carried in her presence. It had become less overwhelming as the filly grew more robust, but the concern was still present and would likely remain for quite some time, if not forever. She was, after all, the only one of his two offspring that he knew – and even then, he often doubted that Cersei had been pregnant. For all he knew—or cared, at this point—Iris was completely without siblings.

Perhaps it would be unusual for other stallions to feel so strongly for one mare and her child. Males were often raised to believe they were supposed to gather a group of women, procreate, and then distance themselves and serve only as a guardian. The blanketed male was different; his father had had a rather sizable herd, and Gnome’s mother was favored. Yet the grullo man had not mistreated or distanced himself from the remainder of the mares. They all had good relationships with his father, and he with them and their children. It was this type of family that the red dun wished to create. Looking at Iris as she blinked into consciousness, he hoped that she would one day experience a childhood like his own.

After she gave her usual greeting, the filly proceeded to lift herself from the ground. The action was much more graceful than it had been initially, but her father could see that she was still a rather fragile creature. He tried to remember how his siblings had appeared at this age, but he found that those memories were blurred. Gnome was always too busy wandering off on adventures to observe typical herd life. His mismatched eyes followed the girl’s gaze to her mother and Jessamine.

It seemed for a moment as though she might join them, but the fear of the unknown brought Iris back to him, and he arched his neck over her back with laughter. “There’s nothing to be afraid of, love, that’s just Jessa. She’ll probably stay with us awhile, but for now we should let her sleep.” He pulled his head up, giving her a mischievous smile. “Now, shall we see what kind of trouble we can get ourselves in while your mother’s occupied?” Turning away from the filly, he picked up an easy trot, glancing back once to be sure she followed.
