I am not sad but sober

Pyrate had said she could explore, to leave his territory and wander the rest of the Islands if she so chose too. Although Yindy had acted as if she had not heard his words, that she had been deaf to his voice, the golden mare was now taking full advantage of his offer. Legs burning from the constant pull of sand, the heat bearing down on her from the overhead sun her golden neck and flank were now darkened from sweat. She had left early that morning not knowing how far it would be to get where she was going, but the breeze coming off the ocean to her right was small reprieve from the otherwise unbearable temperature.

Yindy had followed the never ending sandy shores from territory to territory, never allowing herself to get lost or turned around. She knew so long as she stayed upon the edge that she would be able to find her way back. Yet once she reached what she knew was the Dunes, the mare couldn’t help but turn inland. Eyes alert for the first time in a long time, her head was held high as she searched for a familiar coat. But just like his scent, it seemed Badr was absent.

The mare had traveled quite a distance into the territory in search of the stallion she had once known, but what she hoped to find she didn’t know. A soft sigh escaped her when she finally stopped, her head dropping slightly in defeat. Why had she come at all? It was obvious long before she had stepped foot here by the rank odor of another stallion that the chestnut man was not here. What he would have done if he still was, Yindy didn’t know either.
