GUIDELINES

- the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
- anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
- adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
- the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
- the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
the world is on my side

This season was certainly a tempting one, but the red dun had always found that restraint was a strength of his, and he had proven it once again thus far. True, his daughter was begging for more children to play with, but he would not suggest such an idea to Jessa. Covering Lily was also out of the question. After Iris’s harrowing birth, he contented himself simply with the blue roan’s closeness and the fact that she was alive. However, he had begun to distance himself from the women, for he knew that the longer he denied his instincts the more difficult it would be.

It was for this reason that Gnome found himself gazing out across the sea at the other islands. He had no intention of swimming today, though eventually he would need to briefly remove himself. For the time being, the rhythmic whisper of the waves lapping at his hooves was enough to distract him.

He was so engrossed in watching the distant whitecaps that he almost didn’t notice the painted figure emerging from the water to his left. It seemed she hadn’t noticed him at first either, which was no surprise given his stillness. He continued to silently watch, as she first looked confused and then a bit defensive of her surroundings. Gnome let out a low call to her so she would be aware of his presence before he turned and began to approach her leisurely. Of course, she also carried the aroma of the season, but it never once crossed his mind to force himself upon her. He had seen rape and its aftermath, and had no intention of causing such pain.

While he walked, his ears pricked in interest. This female was a stranger to him, much as Jessa had been; the only difference was posturing. Where the graying mare had held herself in a defeated manner, the red and white woman was braced to flee. Gnome smiled at her as he stopped several horse lengths from the mare. He then spoke, keeping his head in a low, nonthreatening position. “What brings you to the Prairie? I’m guessing it isn’t familiarity, since I’ve never seen you before.”
