aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Okay, Leila, come with me!’ The dark essence’s eyes trailed across the grassy terrain and up to the body of her friend. Her ears flickered forward as the confident librettos twirled into her ears. As always, her friend’s voice was quite loud but the spectre would never have changed that. A smile broadened across her darkened features, her pearly whites revealing themselves in a quick movement; they were quite a contrast to her ashen kissers. But as white as they were, they were still plagued by the previous meals as a creamy yellow. Her four limbs swiftly danced up into a standing posture and promptly pranced across the ground like an elegant doe as she followed Hellene. She followed Hellene, or rather frolicked delicately by her side into the woods. Although any one would be able to tell that her friend was the one in charge as the damsel held back slightly. Hellene’s pace was slow and the girl often found herself wanting to increase the pace but in fear of insulting her friend kept her maw tightly locked. It was a short venture in the woods before they reached the stream. The terrain turned from softness to a substance of gravel and the trees thinned out into an open scene.

Alright Leila, this is where we will fish. The ground is solid enough to stand upon sturdily. The important thing to remember with fishing is that how you see the fish under the water is not truly where they are. The light of the water reflects the light back at a different angle. The skill of fishery is all about changing your perception. Above all, practice makes perfect.’ Leila’s fiery eyes were fixed intently upon her friend; her purpose above all was to absorb the information. This way, even if she still could not grasp the concept of fishing, she would still be able to provide the information to other wolves should they ever inquire. Or perhaps to uneducated pups – although Leila was not planning on having a family herself but at least Tyson, should she ever meet him again, would have the information. The material was new to her though and she doubted that she’d ever remember it all – she had not known about the different perceptions at all. Okay… perception, solid ground, practice – got it. “I’ll try to remember,” she giggled, her laughter in liveliness and propelling upwards in a high tone. Her eyes twirled to watch Hellene stride confidently into the azure, engulfing water. And with concentrated eyes, she watched.

It was clear to the maiden that Hellene’s skills were confident and well-practiced. Her performance left poor Leila in awe and made her reluctant to embarrass herself in her attempt at capturing the vertebrates. Well, she couldn’t back down from it now could she? Her fiery gaze rested upon the trout that had been pierced by her friend’s jaws, her teeth clutched it as the life dissolved from the scaly body. Oh she was going to be brilliant at this… if the lesson was to be the worst fisher ever. ‘Now I have been fishing for years, so I know where the fish’s location is based on how I view it, so I just lunge my paw at it. Other ways to fish… hmm… you can use bait. Dribble some worms so that a bunch congregate can increase the odds of catching one. Or you can chase a fish into your claws. You can fish in pairs as well, and have one lupine chase the fish toward the other.’ Leila’s cringing only increased; all of these different tactics! How was she supposed to catch a fish? What was the best way? What was the easiest way? She didn’t ask though, deciding to just use Hellene’s strategy. ‘Go on, Leila. Try it. I’ll give you pointers as you try.

“Alright but if you laugh…” she began, her gaze resting onto Hellene’s face, “I will get revenge.” And then Leila smiled sweetly before focusing her attention onto her task.

Her limbs waded into the water, repeating Hellene’s demonstration. It was a good five minutes or so before another fish decided to brave the waters that one of his comrades had been slayed in. Leila inhaled deeply, waiting for it so swim closer. Her paw was already raised, reading to strike the vertebrate. Oh yeah, the perception…thing, she recounted quickly. Wait, how was she supposed to know where the fish was if the fish was not in the exact place it appeared to be? Her eyes widened as she randomly struck. Her paw bashed the side of the little morsel although she hadn’t managed to catch it. But not wishing to let it go, the tempest continued to hunt, adrenaline pumping through her veins. The maiden’s front limbs collapsed and her head ducked into the water, her muzzle was soaked by the stream water. Her jaws managed to clutch the body, her jaws grasping and bringing it out from under the surface with a loud crunch. She climbed inelegantly out of the water, the fish dropping to her paws. “I’m so graceful,” she joked half-heartedly. “Perhaps I should try a different tactic? Like the bait?”

Her eyes trailed down to her meal, ducking her head in embarrassment.

By her paws was a rather mashed up body of a fish and she could a bit of fish flesh floating in the stream… nice.
