probable sighting! IP: 108.7.193.63 Posted on November 10, 2013 at 01:09:36 AM by Cici
Just had my daily phone call with my mom. She takes a drive every day. Today, about 11:30ish in Wayland on Water Row she saw what we believe was a Mountain Lion as everything else has been ruled out. She said: Definitely NOT a dog.LARGE - as in the size of my Great Dane(about 35" at the shoulder), which means it's not a Bobcat.Walking along briskly;didn't walk like a dog, walked like a cat; besides which it is EXTREMELY unusual to see even a loose dog in our area now since the leash law went into effect decades ago.Didn't remember noticing what the ears looked like.Kept saying it "looked very sleek".It had a very long tail.Long body.Fawn/light brownish beige. It was walking parallel to the road beyond a swampy area in grass. She slowed way down, motioned for people to pass as they were honking but by the time she got out her binoculars to look he had disappeared.Interestingly - there was a write up in the Wayland Town Crier about 6-8-10(?) years ago stating that a town employee was SURE he had seen a Mountain Lion cross RTE.27 in Wayland about 6 in the morning. He was sure of what he saw as he is a hunter - NO doubt in his mind at all.Upon reading that article is when I became really interested in M.L.'s being in the area. There is a HUGE deer population in Wayland. I work there 3 days a week and see them almost every day. One day I had to actually stop my car on 27 while a herd of about 40-50 crossed over. She said there was a lot of traffic so I'm going to listen to the news and keep my eyes peeled for news articles.Chances are though on a Saturday everybody was thinking about their errands rather than looking out for animal sightings.Next time she comes over I'm going to show her online pics of M.L.'s for a more positive ID, although I really don't know what else it could have been. When is it going to be my turn to see one of these magnificent creatures?!?
