Nyx watched the other mare as she never took her eyes off of Chomps and she wondered how exhausting that must be, watching over a foal and making sure it didn’t harm itself but also protect it from outside threats. The spotted mare could barely keep her own eyes open and that was just after a few days of travel. Imagine if she had her own foal to look after during that journey. Nyx smirked to herself. Who was she kidding? She doubted a foal of hers would have lasted that long. Nyx had never viewed herself as a mother, and at times she worried that her motherhood instinct was a dud.

But, at other times, times like this, she could feel her heart yearning for her own little foal. Looking at the way Ash looked at her mother for comfort and how protective Wynne was of her, Nyx wished she had her own foal to care for, to love, to protect. Nyx looked away from the pair, trying to remind herself that she had come looking for adventure, not for a child.

“Don’t worry about him.” Nyx replied, tilting her head to Chomps, and watched as he relaxed once again. “He’s been distracted by the woods since we arrived I don’t think he’s going to do anything.” Nyx hoped she spoke the truth, and she tried to put a reassuring smile on her face. She really didn’t think that he would try anything, especially since if he had there would be two very angry mares to retaliate against him. And this one looked like she could do some real damage. “Besides, if he does, I’m sure he’ll regret his decision pretty quick.”

Nyx wandered slightly closer to the new mare, careful to keep her distance from the filly just in case the mare thought she was a threat. Though she was probably the least of the mare’s problems at the moment. She turned her body so that she protected the other side of the filly and pinned her ears down and glared at Chomps, warning him that she would not tolerate him bullying a filly, even if it wasn’t hers.
