Re(3): Why do you want to confirm the existence of mountain lions in New England?

University of Montreal DNA data showed Similarities to the western US cougars. A few showed what they believe is Florida DNA. They also made this point clear: " At this point, it is not possible to confirm individual cougar identity through DNA sampling".

So, cite why you think these are "escaped pets", or why the fantastic tale of a cat that walked from South Dakota is more credible than the possibility of a cat coming from Quebec, which is FAR closer, and well within the known range of dispersing cougars. That all assuming they aren't native ones that have managed to survive the years. That theory is simply not credible. Seems the quabbin DNA, as well as a few others, has managed to be "lost", so more independent testing of it isn't possible anymore. No problem, we will find more before much longer.
