windblown wandererMuch as he wanted to catch up with his old friend, Şahin was a bit more interested in strengthening his relationship with Mera. The little filly was growing up fast (all foals seemed to— it was the curse of having children) and his heart already ached at the thought of her leaving. She had been the one constant since his arrival in Paradise, and Şahin was loathe to let her go. So while Dia spoke he leaned closer to the roaned buckskin and whuffled her forelock again. She was too damned cute.
“Mm? Oh, yes,” he said, lifting his head to speak clearly. “I came across it empty and abandoned and decided to set up camp where it was warm and pleasant for once. This little tide chaser discovered me being a hermit, and thank goodness for that. She saved me from desolation, for sure!” He nuzzled the filly’s cheek affectionately. “You’re more than welcome to stay, Dia. It’s been too long and there’s more than enough room here for you. Let me know?” He beamed at her before he nudged Mera with his shoulder. “What do you think? Time for a race?” And with a low buck he took off running down the shore.
