The Rules
  • There will be no fraternizing with enemies. If you put yourself knowingly in danger, don't expect a rescue.
  • We are only as strong as our weakest link. See to it that you are getting stronger in some skill that is useful, whether it is battling, recruiting, charming, etc.
  • The King and Queen have final say in all matters.

Vesti cast another eye over the patchy buckskin. He could not be much older than Grai must now be. It had been a while since she had been reminded of her headstrong sun who had effortlessly taken to the life of the Dunes. He had left the Islands some time ago to seek fortune where he could. He had taken his half-blind brother with him and both had been swallowed by the Sea. Vesti remembered the scene all too well for she had watched her chestnut sons take to the waves and had mourned them. She knew the Sea had taken them, and that It was not done yet. It would never return them.

He comments on his mother. On the black that Vesti had come to see. She knew the mare was the only one who had been here longer than she, as the oasis had been saturated with that scent the first few times she had skirted around it during her exile. She recalled Orhan’s scent as well, when she thought about it. But it had been quick and had not lingered like El Aran’s had.

He continues his side of the conversation. Something in Vesti recognizes that this stallion wants to be alone with his mother. She can understand, of course. But she does not appreciate being told so candidly to leave. She turns her dark eyes to him.

“Of course,” She moves to nibble on a patch of grass not too far from the shade she has claimed. “When I have rested and the sun is not so strong. When I have eaten and cooled. Then I shall continue.” In her own time, damn it. She had long since stopped taking the orders of stallions. She almost challenged Orhan to take command; to chase her out or force her to be on her way.

Vesti, we talked about this. The Voice cooed. What if he chases? What will you do then? Vesti snorted outwardly in response to the voice in her mind. She turned an eye to Orhan.

Then we will see if he can back up his orders. Because I’m tired and I came for company. Damn it! This was your idea! Don’t go twisting things now. Her argument was inward, but perhaps the irritation would express itself outward. Her own mind was turning against her once more. As it always did when it felt it wasn’t needed.
