Her words rang true, so Chael was silent. His silence gave her the answer she needed, he was sure, for her mind was sharp. When she launched herself forwards, Instinctual panic twisted his gut painfully and excitement coiled in his legs. His ears dropped backwards and his lips tightened into a soft smile in preparation for being bitten. Their noses touched softly and Chael felt sparkles zap his heart. The power she radiated swirled like a living creature around them, as if waiting to hunt. A chill spread over Chael’s shoulders. He was so close to death, and somehow it couldn’t catch him. It was exhilarating. Was this the addiction of his brethren in Iromar? The mystery of their cruelty seemed to unravel slightly to Chael in this moment of heightened adrenaline and sharpened senses.
Their fur melded together in a grayscale of white to black and Chael relished the feel of their breaths matching pace. The steady thud of her heart sounded felt like music to his ears. Her dangerous, hateful eyes held his that couldn’t imagine the emotion. He enjoyed watching it, though, for it added a unique glaze to the eyes that had the power to induce fear with just a glance. He relaxed his chest wider as she faltered a moment, pressing herself into him. He would have stayed like that forever so that he could feel suspended above all else and feel power he’d never known. Power?! Chael’s eyes faltered and he lowered his nose from hers and backed away. This was bad. Very, very bad.
He fretted as he turned away and gazed at her with terribly troubled eyes, “You must give me nothing.” Chael couldn’t fathom that she had just blessed him with the very action he so desired. It was wrong no one pleased him. Ever. Worry welled in Chael’s stomach. She was no slave of his! She must be free to do as she pleased. Such privileged was only that of high rank. And Chael - he mustn’t gain rank. Oh no… no. He couldn’t. Hell would break the earth the day he was made capable of such a thing.
And then the ground shook. Sharp and hard. Chael’s eyes widened. No! He refused! A loud crack echoed around the crags and boulders could be heard crashing into a depth deeper than a black hole. Worry turned to panic and Chael breathed out in a shudder. He looked at his imprint to ensure she was safe. “I… I am sorry,” He told her, his eyes flickering in something close to tragedy. He turned from her. He had to return to Iromar. Out here… was taboo. Something evil had befallen him, and Chael had not a clue in the world how to handle it. However, with each step, a weight seemed to place itself on his heart. By the time he reached his den, the weight would be crushing it.
