we are the walking dead *

the coffin is moving
Oddly enough, Asp heard them approach. It wasn't as if two draft horses could gallop up on him unannounced—and the first sound of hooves that weren't Asp's caused the stallion to stop walking. Ears twitching, Asp decided that the noises were circling around him and a flash of motion made him snort. He twitched his coat, bored and irritated from waiting and unimpressed with the way the big stallion navigated himself through the trees.

He nearly let loose with a laugh when the other stallion called out and stared coldly at him.

“Easy big guy,' he said, but he couldn't help the amusement that obviously danced in his throat and dark, wild eyes, 'don't want to scare the lady.”

From her looks, Asp could guess she was some relation of the big stallions. From her looks he could also gather that she was well past her age to find her own herd, and Asp's ears twitch in disapproval. What strange sort of stallion allowed his children to linger?

He shook his head, his mane falling to either side of his neck.

“Gotta proposition for the main man that leads here,' he began, tilting his head to the side.

“I mean to make the forest mine, one way or another. Co-lead would suit me fine, but I'm not afraid of kicking ass to get what I want.”

He hesitated, realizing that he wasn't exactly being polite or submissive. It wasn't in his nature, but he figured that later on he might need to reflect on the fact that you get more bees with honey than vinegar—or something like that. But neither had the stallion been very friendly, and Asp could only guess that the daughter had something to do with it.

He flicked his tail nonchalantly. A grin would have spread across his face if horses were able of such things.

“But tell y'what, big guy, I'll leave you and this forest alone if you give me the aforementioned lady. She's awful pretty.” In truth, he didn't think any such thing, but he knew that girls liked to be called pretty.

“Oughta think well and hard 'fore you give me an answer, buddy.”

Because if the big stallion refused, it was more than likely Asp would try to make the girl and the land his in one fell swoop.
