"Alright," she said, the lie sliding out of her mouth without effort. Words were words, meaning was optional. She didn’t think about it, but it was very likely she would disobey Warsaw’s request to stay out of the Bay and keep to the Inlet. Her voice held neither sincerity nor blatant disregard. She might have said ‘no’ with the same voice, and it wouldn’t have made a difference.

His teeth scraped against her shoulder and Shale squealed and flinched, her body tensing violently. Not out of fear or surprise, but rather something like a playful warning; her ears lay flat, and she twisted around with her neck to scrape her own teeth against his jaw line. It was rough, but not rough enough to provoke; harshly playful. "I’ll let you own me for now," she said, her words empty again. She would enjoy the stallion, but she would not feel anything toward him. She wouldn’t even hate him.

She growled suddenly, giving a buck so that the middle of her back rose toward his chin. She bolted out from under him, kicking without aim before twisting around and rearing toward him. She was looking to spar, to provoke him into play-fighting with her. Ears forward, Shale brought her teeth down on his mane, holding onto him possessively. "If you catch me, I’ll stay," she said, sincerity appearing for the first time in her voice.

With that, she released him and took off, her light, pale body streaking across the flat, snow-patched ground in a straight line. Shale had not lied this time; if he caught her, the Inlet would become the place she’d return after her explorations were finished. She would not, however, cease said explorations, but the grey stallion didn’t need to know that.
