give nothing back

Even as anger and adrenaline surge through him, the palomino takes great care to ascertain that he does not harm the girl - after all, it would only leave his competence in question if he he were to return to the Lagoon with damaged goods. There would be plenty of time later to reinforce the consequences of rebelling against his will. For now, his only concern is seizing this object of Thane's (however indifferently the swamp king may or may not feel toward his daughter) in the same manner that the brute had snatched his sister. She would be useful as leverage if Thane should ever return - and in the meantime, Rade was certain he could think of a different use for her.

He almost laughs at her presumption, almost plays along but for the fact that to do so would label him a pawn of his enemy. “Silly girl,” he growls instead, his voice uncharacteristically coarse with his own anger. “I answer to nothing and no-one. But I guess that he did, in a manner of speaking. Thane owes me a debt of blood, and I intend to claim it by whatever means are necessary.”

By the time the last word has passed his lips, the grulla mare is dodging swiftly around him, seeking to lose him in the cover of the forest. Rade would follow but for the unfamiliar ashen stallion who suddenly bars his bath, the set of teeth that grasp for his skin. The palomino does not pause for a retort to the stranger's words, does not shy away from the confrontation before him. Instead, he throws himself at the man without warning, intending to send a very clear - and very physical - message to one who would dare to stand between him and the recovery of Lagoon property.
