Hi Dave, This a called a fishing site, but info like you are asking is very hard to come by on here most of the time.Over a long time of reading these post. The locals think that IL is their private lake and all the fish are there just for them only!I don`t agree with that and I am reminded of that when I lay down my HARD EARNED MONEY to buy my fishing license. Now enough rambling and on to your question. If you want to take your boy and have Great fishing experience with him. NOW is the time. Don`t put it off for a month. Some of the biggest Crappies of the year are being caught right now.It will get better for the next month or so.Get your lightest pole and some 4lb test line. Some small 1 32 ounce jigs grn chartruse wht are best.Go around the docks. Best ones are the ones with wooden posts in the water. Start at 2ft deep and go from there tiny bobber and small jig. Twitch give it 30 seconds twitch 2 or 3 inches to the side and repeat.Be alert at these cold water temps they bite very light.Be prepared for an eruption of the water. When a 4 or 5 lb Saugeye decides to take that tiny jig and make it his own !! Blackhawk.Long Island,Moundwood are just some of the good areas.Don`t wait too long this will only last till spawn is over and they will be gone and then get the boat and chase them. Then you are on your own.Oh and remember 9 inch minimun. 30 limit.I just take a sharpie and put marks at 9 in on the lid of my cooler and make it easy to measure them. You will get many that are just short and have to go back. They check closely! Good luck to ya .
