THERE IS NO WHY.

K1A1 watches Dögun smile and registers that he’s pleased. Though his state of mind made absolutely no difference to her, she uses this observation to note his simplicity. Of course they had the same goal. As long as K1A1 remained here under his control, she was merely an extension of his goals—a large, powerful, ruthless extension with the ability to accomplish tasks both exceedingly great and unthinkably horrible. She could be a hero or a villain, a savior of a thousand souls or a murderer of ten thousand victims. This had always been her purpose, and likely always would be until the day she died.

She lowers her dark head to rehydrate and turns one ear in Dögun’s direction as he speaks again, describing the vantage point they would seek next. She starts toward the path, her large hooves crushing the snow easily. The extreme cold hardly bothered her. Her kind had been created to withstand all elements—weather and war alike. K1A1 had no insecurities because she knew both weather and war were inevitable, and as long as this was true she would continue on, despite any obstacles that may cross her path.
