CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster.
Messages posted in the last 24 hrs. are in White.
Thoughts after the battle
IP: 109.155.34.0

Written following the disbandment of The XX Lancashire Fusiliers in 1968.

They did go, sold, into that dark night.
No leader raged against the
dying of the light.
No mention made of past times when,
The Twentieth saved the day again,

No thanks for going over’ top
Gallipoli, Cassino and Spion Kop
A politicians stroke of pen
made history of it all, but then

As the LFs scattered far apart
They each had burning in their heart
A glow which leaves you in no doubt
This is one light they can't put out!

Verse 2.

Following the 12 July 2012 announcement that 2RRF was to be disbanded.

But hist, come forty odd years near
to similar happenings now I fear,
Brave Fusiliers who for countless years
With broken bodies, sweat and tears

Have freely given to keep us free
Their lives and limbs, and now we see
With what disdain our country treats
These heroes of courageous feats

For Kipling in his wisdom knew
that Tommy still would daring do
And politicians safe in second homes
still send them off to danger zones

These heroes surely earn respect
From those we foolishly elect
Men like these they have no peers
God save the Second Fusiliers.

Verse3.

Following the march on Parliament October 18th 2012.

Proud fighting men, as tough as teak
Must fight our fights, but never speak
So who will stand and fight their cause
As they fight ours in foreign wars?

The answer swift and certain came
From those who have fought the Patriot game
Just tell us how, and where, and when
These proud determined Fusilier men.

Whitehall’s granite stood slumbering on an October morn
Her statues standing silent witness to the gathering storm
Last seen at Bishops Gate in 1649 when men with similar intent
Made plain their marching voice which nought could circumvent..

Red and white upon greying heads these older comrades came
And filled the space directly where they felt to place the blame
Faces showing the lines of time, and stress of battles past.
Now united, disciplined determined and back as one at last.

A few familiar shouts which straightened aged backs to ramrod youth
Then stirring words, stirring music, and stepping out to seek the truth
The brothers in arms, to fife and drummers beat
Descended on the very spot where democracy has its seat

The families of younger fallen Fusiliers gathered too
In The Old library Yard with press, politicians and TV crew
Then clear as a bell a single voice called” Once a Fusilier”
To be instantly echoed by 450 voices,” Always a Fusilier”

So into that great place where finally they will decide our fate
Went those 450 medalled veterans keen to see and hear debate
The arguments made, the speaker fair to let us hear and see
The vote was counted; we held our breath, victory by 57 to 3

A battle won, like so many Fusiliers have won before
But do not hang up your sword, there will be many more
Like St George we must prove steadfast throughout the fight
Stand united, keep the faith, shoulder arms, and prove that right is right.

And today Thursday May 22nd, a day of infamy:-

So my friends we did not win the day
But carried our fight the Fusilier way
A sterling fight, fought with dignity and sense of pride
We showed our flag once more, aye, showed it far and wide
So on this day as we mourn and heed a Drummers call
A whole year past as if no time at all
Close ranks, show family strength
The bond we have is always here.
You are now, and will always be,a Fusilier.

Joe.
