Verdin had smelled the scent of horses getting stronger, and he quickly turned to the right in hopes of avoiding the herd. He did not want trouble, but he doubted he would be able to move through the forest for long before being detected. As all but one scent began to fade, he realize he might be in luck, hopefully if he was able to escape the one scent. He picked up the pace a bit as it grew stronger, weaving around some trees and hoping he would run into someone he knew. But who would he know here? If his sister was around, he was sure he would have recognised her scent. Everyone else he had met had ether been at the Lagoon or at the Meadow. Sighing and slowing his pace, the stallion continued at a slower trot as he heard the other approaching. If worse came to worse, he would be chased off.

The horse spoke and Verdin stopped, swinging his head to look at the tan mare. Her color was pleasing against the trees, but she was like him; they could not hide easily against the dark trunks. Lightly snorting a huff off air out of his nose, the stallion laid his ears back as he considered how much trouble he had gotten himself into. Depending on how he played his cards, he could either leave with no trouble or be forced to fight with some stallion that would not let him go. Letting his ears flick up at her next question, the stallion flared his nostrils to gather her scent.

"I'm looking for something." The pale stallion said, not sure what he meant. He was certainly looking for his sister, but he already knew that she would not be here. Perhaps, then, he was looking for some peace, but he had continued even after smelling the herd. Verdin took the time to start puzzling out why he did come, watching the mare for any sudden movements.
