I like how you used smudging and coloring for the outside to simulate real fur! It looks real good. c: To help blend him in more, you can always use several tactics:
1: Taking two different stocks, like the wolf and forest picture, usually have differing sources of lights. You can mess with the contrast, curves, and brightness settings first to help them fit well together.
2. Creating a 'shadows' layer over your wolf is useful. You can take black and white colors and paint over the subject- i.e wolf, to match the direction of the light. Then set this layer to low opacity or overlay to help simulate shadows and highlights.
3. Bring attention and detail to the eyes by darkening the dark spots and pupil, while playing with the color of the iris.
