which then grew into a hope

Beschea

Grai realized pretty quickly that the other mare was not a local. At least, from the way she looked at him. Oh well. If they were both strangers... well, he had little experience with that. Normally mares in a territory were herd mares. Not too many loners. Before there was a chance of discussion another mare approached. And she was big, powerful and a little intimidating. Perhaps it was the quarter horse in him; or it was the survival instincts that ran so high in his blood, but Grai tensed.

He knew he could out run this other mare. Grai had very few things, but speed was definitely one of them.

Thankfully, Dogun approached and Grai was relieved. He would talk the other mare down. Then then Arabian spoke and Grai couldn't help but laugh a bit.

“Then someone gave you very bad directions,” He laughed. “You're looking for Salem. It's about a day's swim away from here.” He shrugged. “Not much out there though.” He shook his neck out and approached Dogun.

“Yeah, well, didn't have anywhere else to go. Best invitation I've had in a while." He smiled at the other stallion. Then he turned his eyes to the big mare. “Uh... Hi. I'm Grai. Pleased to meet you.”

Even though the chestnut tends to ramble, he is sure in himself. Perhaps it was a strange sort of confidence. Either he projected it as a shield or it came from the genuine crazy that was in his family. either way, around other equines, none of his inner demons seemed to show.
