The art of love is largely the art of persistence Lyden

The sun was rising over the sharp lines of the mountain, painting beautiful pastel colors across the inky sky. The days had been slowly growing warmer and the snow was only in the shady patches now as spring slowly started the mend the land. Skylar had been staying more at the base of the Peak where she had birthed her two children, keeping a close eye upon them and their progress. One foal seemed strong and healthy while the other seemed a mite smaller and showed the same symptoms as Accalia had as well as herself. It made the mother think that it had something to do with the child’s heart and if Skylar had passed it on yet again. It made Skylar sad but knew the girl would not be deprived of life when her mother had experienced so much already.

Casting her eyes to the sun as it rose up into the sky, Skylar knew it was time. It was the seventh sunrise and both foals had finally become strong enough. Moonshine had been strong enough within the first two days but Skylar had given Meradith more time to get her bearings and strength before leading the two children from the mountainside and to the salt filled water that lapped upon the Crossing’s beach. Skylar had only waded up to her knees where she stopped and waited for her children to become accustom to the new challenge and as she glanced back she couldn’t help a chuckle.

Moonshine was leery at first, pausing to lowering her face down towards the strange smelling water. As a wave moved up onto the shore it slapped her in the face causing the filly to let out a squeal and scramble backwards. Eyeing the water again and then glancing at her mother she let out what would later in life be a battle cry before she launched herself into the water. Slamming her sharp little hooves into the liquid she splashed it all around before she finally settled and stood next to her mother, glancing at Meradith and when both children were read, Skylar lead them deeper into the water.

Keeping the foals close she pulled them along in the current she made with her body, taking them from shore to shore of each Islands so that they would not have to do much swimming at a time and had plenty of breaths to eat and rest. When they finally reached the shores of Luthien Skylar was worn out and knew her children had to be. The sun was reaching towards the horizon as the day ended and after helping both girls out of the water and onto the sand, she stopped to let them rest once more.

Raising her head, Skylar let out a loud piercing cry that echoed with a beckoning call. Despite the strength in the sound the mother was not as strong as she should be. Ribs jutted from her sides and her flanks had sunk in. Her chest was constantly filled with fire much more intense than it had been with Braylen and Accalia. Caring for twins was taking its toll on her but Skylar would never ask for help. If she was strong enough to bring them into this world then she was strong enough to care for them.
