CHARITABLE ADVERTISING on Web Site There are many worthwhile charitable causes in existence, but we can only accept sponsorship or fundraising efforts on Fusilier Association websites, that specifically support approved Fusilier charities. This essentially means that it is acceptable to use these pages to seek sponsorship for The Fusiliers Aid Society (which includes Fallen Fusiliers), and The Fusilier Memorial fund only. We now have our own dedicated justgiving site (http://www.justgiving.com/fusiliersaidsociety), which you can use to help raise money for your cause. If you let RHQ (Asst Regt Sec) know the specific cause you are raising money for, it will be directed to the correct fund. Messages soliciting sponsorship for causes or charities other than the Fusilier ones mentioned above should not be placed on the message board and may be removed by the Webmaster.
Messages posted in the last 24 hrs. are in White.

Dear Lancashire’s Fusiliers,

Having just returned from operations, I thought it would be a good time to write to you and give you an update. Firstly, I would like to thank Martin Travers for standing in so ably whilst I was in Afghanistan; I know he did a great deal on top of a busy day-job. As for me, I am now back in the UK and have just assumed the post of Director Army Division at the Staff College in Shrivenham. I am now responsible for educating all Army Majors and preparing them for both the Staff and sub-unit command.

When I took over as Colonel Lancashire in 2011, I promised a Plan that would look out 5 years based on distinct lines of operation. By way of an update:

Promoting and supporting the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers in Lancashire. Lancashire continues to produce more recruits for the Regiment than any other area. The recent civilianisation of the recruiting system, coupled with an improving economy, has been a challenge. The Regiment has recognised this and a Recruiting Team, based on soldiers from the 1st Battalion, will now be based in the North-West, able to capitalise on a strong Regimental footprint. But it will still be tough! To keep our Regular and Reserve elements topped up with quality, we all need to ensure we focus the scarce resources. I would urge you to seek every opportunity to showcase the Regiment. If you see such an opportunity – be that with cadets or Schools - then please get in touch with RHQ and let us know.

Supporting the wider Regimental family in Lancashire. Mick Moran continues to lead a vibrant Association; an Association continues to be at the very core of our Lancashire’s Fusilier family. That family spirit has been shown time and time again, whenever we have had to say ‘farewell’ to one of our own – be that as a result of enemy action, tragic accident, terrorist atrocity or old age. The way the Fusilier Family comes together with such dignity and grace is not just a huge comfort to loved ones, but an enormous source of pride to all who wear the hackle. Strengthening the Association must remain a high priority and I will be investigating ways of increasing the membership – with special focus on the younger elements of our Regiment.

Preserving our Regiment’s proud heritage – both LF and RRF. The museum continues to go from strength to strength, providing a real focus for regimental activity in the North-West. My own focus remains on ensuring we do all we can to appropriately commemorate our forefather’s actions; of increasing significance over the next couple of years as World War 1 becomes the Main Effort. For Lancashire’s Fusiliers, the celebration and commemoration of Gallipoli next year will be key. We will form a Committee to examine the detail – you will all have strong views and I would welcome your input.

In summary, this has been a challenging and turbulent time – and there is more ahead. As an Army we now emerge from over a decade of fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. As a Regiment, we have acquitted ourselves with honour and courage – be that on the bridges in Basra, in the dust of Sangin and Nowzad or on the streets of Bury. Unfortunately, I suspect our biggest fight is yet to come; that is the battle to ensure the Regiment is as well prepared as possible to adapt to the significant challenges ahead. The merger of 1st and 2nd Battalions, and the resulting implications, will need us all to pull together to ensure our Regiment not just survives - but thrives. Lancashire will continue to do its bit!

Colonel Lancashire
