she begged for love to remain

freya
store up your hate, use it for
warmth when you're cold

Shiraz had been an angel all night, sleeping comfortably next to her and not making a sound. She had kept watch over him until she felt he was warm enough to survive the frigid Tinuvel night, allowing herself only a couple hours of rest and sleeping lightly to ensure she is awake when the sun comes over the horzion. Before she wakes him, she allows herself a moment to gaze down at his sleeping figure, looking so calm and peaceful in the morning light. Her heart longs for a child of her own, but she is unsure if it will ever be possible. Forcing the thought away, she nudges the colt until he is conscious and on all fours again, then leads him away towards the beach, keeping him close. It may be day, now, but predators always lurked within the shadows.

They reach the spot where the chestnut mare and Dogun stand; it is obvious the female is looking for her child, whom Freya delivers safely and in one piece. When the colt hesitates, placing a nip on her chest, she lowers her head and places a firm but gentle nudge on his hindquarters, encouraging him to go to his mother. She could provide what he needs - love and nourishment - something that Freya feels she is unable to give to a child at this point in her life. She watches with a content look upon her face as Shiraz begins to suckle, obviously very hungry from a whole night of no food.

Freya and Dogun do their best to explain why they had taken him inland, and the golden mare hopes she has not upset the woman too much. When the chestnut pauses, she becomes worried that she is angry and upset with them for taking her child away from her - even if she had been unconscious the whole night. She shifts her weight nervously, ready to bear the brunt of the chestnut's wrath, but is surprised and relieved when she speaks, thanking them. A heavy sigh escapes her sooty lips. "No need to thank us. We only did what we thought would be best for him." She gives the mare a quick up-and-down to make sure she is fine physically, and when all seems well, she settles next to Dogun, ignoring the bloody spot on the ground in front of them. "May I know your name?"
