I could see it in her. She was starting to doubt me, and, of course, that just couldn’t happen. If the idiot doubted then the plan would most certainly not work. It would be like Esi all over again, knowing what I was planning. I couldn’t hide the intentions from the stupid fox, but I was not going to all my effort put to naught by the bimbo my prince spent so much time with. I just needed to spin this the right way; the moron would never need to know I set it up, really.

“Nyx is hardly eager. She is simply not fond of keeping the king’s brother waiting. Or, for that matter, questioning his requests. The baron is very skilled with a sword and Nyx is quite fond of her head.” That should quiet any thoughts that I was up to any malfeasance. It was the truth after all. Or at least part of it was. I was most assuredly eager for this scheme to take wing.

I rose as the artist did, and noted my whimpering familiar cowering where the wolf had left her exposed. It was nice to stretch and, though the girl had complained of my movements throughout the session, I could tell from the stiffness in everything that I had been perfectly still, the greatest of artistic subjects ever known. The offered walk could be a useful tool as well. After all, I knew the castle halls as well as any other resident, and the fool was sure to follow, even to the baron’s quarters, whether she wished to attend to him or not. My needs would be met. I, ever the perfect citizen, held the door ajar for both Thea and her wolf before joining her in the hall.
