those black wings

Unknown

the wing of a falcon brings to the king,

Crow was not fearful of rejection or of what the mare might think that Elliot was leading her to. The growl of her stomach and the traumatic event of losing her mother was all the black filly could think about. It was abuzz in her mind like a hive of bees, not allowing her to think of much else than what she was faced with now. Life or death were not considered in her young mind; but sleep was beginning to drag at her eyes to make them heavy and hard to hold open and her legs work slow so that she traveled that much more slowly and had begun to trip over things that lay in her path or even her own black spindly legs.

When the pale mare loomed ahead of them Crow focused her gaze upon the woman and was determined to at least make it that far. A strange sound had begun to fill each breath she took and occasionally she would cough during their trip here. The salt had made her lungs and throat raw and soon it would heal but after happening so recently it was all the more reason Crow wanted comfort and that warm embrace that only a mother could give.

As the mare stepped over closer to the dark filly’s partially dry skin a whoosh of air escape Crow in a sigh of relief. She did not hesitate on tucking her head beneath the mare’s flank to suckle greedily at the warm milk provided. As it began to fill her belly the warmth also spread through the filly’s cold body to warm her up and make her all the more sleepy. Pulling away once she was full her lips were white until her pink tongue cleaned away the extra upon her muzzle.

Standing there for just a moment, Crow took in their surroundings with those dark eyes and decided she liked it here. The cover of the leaves to block out the sky made her feel more secure and with a yawn she moved over to stand at the mare’s chest. Buckling her legs she laid down at the woman’s feet, a yawn escaping her before she tipped her head to look more closely at the pale woman. She was nothing like Crow’s black and white dam but for now that did not matter. Only the comfort that a mother could supply did and after bushing her soft lips across the woman’s legs she laid her head down upon her front legs and closed her eyes in hopes of finally getting to sleep. Later when her throat no longer hurt and she could hold her eyes open better she would tell the duo her name and possibly find out more about them.
