a lover sinking in the sea

and the birds will sing our song in halcyon

Summer is nice.

Freya finds she quite enjoys the warmer weather. The way the sun tenderly kisses her flesh and spreads a comforting warmth throughout her body from poll to fetlock. She spends her mornings basking in the rays of light, eyes closed to the world and a content smile upon her face. Her thoughts pause in those moments, her mind becoming clear and her whole body feeling as if a great weight has lifted from her shoulders. These early morning moments are fleeting, though, and they slip from her just as quickly as they arrive, and she is left to face the day with her heavy mind and tired body.

Today, so far, has been uneventful. She has passed her time by patrolling the borders over and over, before heading inland and seeing if any of the mares require her assistance. Lately, she has been keeping a close eye on Silver and Macabre - both have young children they need to tend and Freya knows that there are predators in the Inlet that would love to make a meal of their tender flesh. She would not let that happen.

She is approaching the center of the territory when she notices the group gathered amongst the trees. She squints against the bright summer sun, but is unable to make out their faces. She figures, if they are all gathered here, there must be something important going on. So, she approaches, breathing a sigh of relief as the shade casts over her hot flesh. Although summer is nice, the heat is unbearable sometimes.

There is all but one that she recognizes; a beautiful palomino mare with splashes of ivory along her belly, similar to the ones Freya bears along her barrel. She stops next to the stranger, reaching forward to touch noses and share breaths with her, a smile touching her lips. "Hello. I haven't seen you before. I'm Freya." She withdraws a bit. "Are you new here?" Her dark eyes glance towards Macabre and Shiraz, and she can't help but notice how exhausted the colt looks. Perhaps he has just worn himself out playing, she thinks, and turns away after offering the mare a kind smile.

Freya gives K1A1 a brief nod of acknowledgement, before turning her mocha eyes to Dogun, smiling brightly at him. She wonders why he has gathered them all here today. Does he have something important to say? Perhaps there is a new addition to the herd. Oh, how exciting that would be! Freya finds herself prancing in place, waiting for him to speak.
