FROM THE OCEAN SHE RISES

Jörmungandr had seen Sylvia and Lyden together, seemingly well engrossed in conversation. Obviously Lyden knew the mare well and was catching up so she gave them a wide berth to finish doing so. Either she would seek the mare out later and find out about her or Lyden would inform her of all she needed know. Leaving the herd under Lyden’s capable watch, she took Joukahainen on an excursion deep into the forest. They picked their way through the trees, up rocky inclines and trailed the old borders of the thicket where she had been born. The borders were so thick with thorny underbrush she dared not venture into it. It is no wonder no herds reside there anymore, god knows what it is like further in.

As they wander closer to the herd, an unfamiliar voice rings out, calling for her presence. They were not far away but she fears her answer will not be as prompt as it should be. There is little to be done about that. She trots briskly towards the source of the sound. The familiar scent of Caesisus enters her nostrils and her ears flick back momentarily before flicking forward to catch a few words between the perlino and the unknown voice. Slowing to a walk to accommodate a tired colt and still a small distance away, she does not hear every word but manages to pick out the few important details. The mare’s name is Sylvia and she is Lyden’s sister which goes some way to explaining the striking similarity between them.

She snorts softly and out of earshot of the pair, at the last of the mare’s words. Caesisus seems less than sensational in Jörmungandr’s mind yet Lyden and his sister were taken with her all too fast. Perhaps it is a family trait or perhaps Jörmungandr is missing something. Glancing down at Joukahainen, she wonders what his thoughts on the perlino are; that could perhaps shed some light on her theory. She catches little other bits and pieces of the conversation, her theory leaning towards the “missing something” when Caesisus admits to being loved by everyone in her previous home.

As she moves through the pines, her blue eyes finally rest on the mares. It does not escape her notice that Sylvia is now accompanied by a second foal where she had only had one before. Jörmungandr finds this curious. She nickers softly to announce her presence should they not have noticed and makes a beeline for Sylvia. Drawing up to the little group, she regards the perlino dun first. "Caesisus", she greets the mare with a quick acknowledgement and bob of her head in greeting but quickly turns her attention to the other mare. She reaches her muzzle out to exchange introductory breaths ”I am Jörmungandr. I believe you called for me Sylvia, sister of Lyden”. Joukahainen halts at her hip, his good eye taking in the two foals that rested below the unknown mare.
