We'll ride in the gathering storm
As the trail leads farther north, the grullo swivels a single ear in Grai's direction, quietly listening to the words that his friend spoke. Soon his concern peaks as he spoke of his scar, it was a wolf bite. Involuntarily his ears bury into his ebony mess of mane, as Grai focuses on him, he meets his gaze. "You were lucky that was all they left you with." Concern flooded his voice, he knew the pain and destruction that wolves left in their wake. He had watched in terror, as a wolf pack took down a weak member of his past herd, they had desperately tried to save her life but their efforts were futile.
Grai continues with his story about how he had happened upon them and how they had attacked him, the wolves were becoming braver. "So they are gone? Did they look like they were going to head back this way at all?" Pausing he waits for his answer before continuing. "I am sorry about your hip, but thank you for chasing those cursed animals. We now have foals amongst our herd, and they need more protection from wolves." It would be easier for them to take down a foal, he cringes at the thought of either Shiraz or Bastian becoming a meal for a wolf pack.
Than their conversation switches from the dark topic of the wolves to Soda. Grai was surprised that she had shown up on the shores of the Inlet, but Dögun was happy to see that he was beginning to start a family of his own. The grullo had never known the challenges of being a herd stallion until arriving on these shores. "I have not been able to speak with her but I am happy that she is here. Plus she needs the support of a herd."
"Yes the herd has been growing. Have you been able to meet any of the new members? "
