I hope you might consider getting a trail cam for your yard. I bought a refurbished one last June on Amazon for less than $70 and it works great (It's watching my urban vegetable garden so I can see if two legged predators poach veggies that don't belong to them). The battery life is incredible. At 70% right now on the first batteries I installed in it. The camera takes both daytime and nightime infra red pics. They all go on an SD card which you can remove and download the pics to your computer or just attach the computer to the camera and do it.
It sounds like this might be your best bet at getting pics. I hope you'll consider it.
