unsung and lost

The silence felt almost natural as Dragon gazed up at the stars that seemed to have distracted Kasabian. It was a silence that held the enjoyment of something, like close friends relaxing on a gently rocking boat. No words were needed, but no words were ever really needed. Perhaps to some they meant the world, but to Dragon they were a useful way to communicate. He could just as easily tell a story with his body actions, or keep the story for himself. He could create a story with others, pull them along in the actual adventure instead of wrapping them with words. The black stallion mused about how important words were, finally deciding that it was not a problem he needed to solve. Perhaps one day he would ponder it as he fell asleep. For right now, his attention was needed elsewhere.

Kasabian spoke, and Dragon dropped his gaze from the sky. Their eyes locked and the stallion wondered if he had eyes as green as the buckskin. No, he doubted it. His reflection in the water had not been anything more then dark ripples. No one had actually ever told Dragon what his eyes looked like. Perhaps he should ask someone sometime. The black stallion blinked in surprise as the words threw his straying thoughts away. He reached out his muzzle as Kasabian had, confused to what the buckskin was offering. A home, for sure, but as a visitor or a second? Perhaps he would simply be part of the herd.

Kasabian's next string of words jerked the dark stallion back to himself. He was almost speechless at what the buckskin had said, and he moved to approach the other before he could get away. "No," Dragon started, "no. This is your home now, not mine. I lost that title a long time ago." The only place Dragon had kept it was in his head, but he would not share those thoughts with anyone. The Ridge locked in his mind would belong to him, but not this one. Dragon dipped his head slightly in a kind of bow before turning to look at the mountains. He glanced at the buckskin, wondering if his words would start a conversation, or if he could start his exploring.
