 And it's consequences keep you up at night. OOC: Going to speed this thread up, since so much has changed since I originally posted. (i.e., Pilar has been stolen, so let's pretend she is not here.) What was he doing? The stallion snorted, emerald eyes shut tight for a brief span as he searched, internally, for an answer. But there wasn't one, not now, at least. He had no idea what he was doing. The uncertainty of his motives was perhaps the only lingering part of his former self that still remained unearthed. He found it unnerving that he hung around, staying put and standing guard of this place while the others who joined him here were free to come and go as they pleased. It was his responsibility now to maintain a safe haven for them. And for what? He didn't want them to bear his children. He didn't want his name to be remembered here -- at least not for these mundane, totally expected and traditional reasons. So why -- why does he continue, day in and day out, with the same routine? He didn't want to think about it. He stood at the entrance to his jungle, a thick and dark tail flicking anxiously back and forth across his hocks. So much had happened in such a short span of time. Pilar was gone, seemingly vanished at the hands of a thief from the Lagoon. Kasabian, perhaps against his better judgement, had issued a challenge against a Luthien stallion for a mare he didn't even know. The restless itch was returning, the instincts that told him to flee, were getting the better of him. And as the political tides of the islands were in flux, he was making moves he wasn't so sure he was qualified to make. Nevertheless his companions were here, one by one, they came to him on this very day in The Ridge. He smiles weakly to them all as they arrive, Marlena being the first. Emerald eyes watch her as she approaches and he nickers sweetly to her. Being the newest among them, Kasabian had yet to really get to know her. Compass too, had been left to her own devices during her short span as a herd member. Dragon too, but Kasabian need not worry about him, given his history with the terrain. "Let's just get down to it." Kasabian said as they all shuffled in, his gaze bouncing from one face to the next. It wasn't like him to be so matter of fact, but he had a laundry list of things to do, given the outcome of recent events. "As I'm sure you noticed, Pilar is no longer with us. She was taken by Rade from the Lagoon. I am working on a plan to remedy the situation." His gaze drops to the floor and the stallion grits his teeth, his jaw clenching as he does his best to keep his cool. He was embarrassed for having lost her so easily. The last thing he wanted was to instill some kind of fear or feelings of incompetence in himself among the rest of the Ridge members. "I'm due in Luthien soon, too. I have challenged Lyden of the Forest for a mare there. She may or may not be joining us upon my return." He looks to each of them again, gauging their external reactions while he gathered his thoughts to continue on next, "If you haven't met Dragon yet, please get to know him. He is the second in command, and will be keeping an eye out in my absence. He knows the Ridge well." The stallion nods to the dark stud briefly before bobbing his head, then continues. "I don't want any of you to worry, it seems things are tense among the islanders lately. I recommend laying low on Atlantis for a while until everything settles down. That's the best way for Dragon and I to guarantee your safety, but obviously you are all welcome to do as you please. Just tell somebody if you are planning a trip somewhere else. Questions?"
