you understand I got a plan for us
I bet you didn't know that I was dangerous

Hickere’s eyes were wide as she regarded the stallion that had surged into the clearing of the forest moments ago. Her heart was beating fast in her chest and while a part of her wanted to rush off to the safety of the herd a part of her didn’t want to leave Braylen. Not that she was of any help, pulling her hooves back to further separate herself from where they would scuffle and rolling the whites of her eyes as her dished face gave a jerk. With a few aggravated flicks her dark tail snapped at her hind-end, stirring the air behind her.

The tension was thick, stirred only by the moving bodies of the stallions as they sparred. Hickere had backed into the shadows of the tree line where she watched with wide eyes. It was Braylen who she watched for, gasping any time the other stallion made physical contact. Nervousness crawled under her skin and she wondered if she should call for Lyden. No… Braylen would handle this. He could handle this. Hickere felt a surge of pride and trust in him, in the stallion who she had thought was handsome since the moment he came toward her call when she’d been knew and in the commons.

This swell of pride could only last for as long as Braylen fought off the attacker but still, Hickere’s head lifted and her front hoof pawed the ground, a little lather of sweat working over her neck.
