Soljor nodded. He too had been dealing with the troubles of the frozen island. But it was worth it. It made him stronger, more able to deal with the situations that arose in the defense of the herd. It made him a better lead. That is how he felt about the matter. His herd needed strength in this environment. He owed it to them. To those he had brought here, and those who had come to him.

“Yes, those southern horses are,” He laughed. “Believe it or not, I was born off in the tropics of Atlantis. Don’t think I want to ever go back to that heat. I always had a heavy coat anyway. And yes, my daughters are a handful. One more year under my care and I don’t know if I’m going to have this figured out.” He looked at Dogun. “I intend to set my girls off on the right path. I’ll feel better about letting them go if I know where they are going. I don’t trust a two year old high on hormones to make a good choice in stallions.” It was getting close to the question he wanted to ask. Dogun seemed to be a solid choice.

“Yes, Magnus is my second,” Soljor said. “He’s young, not fully grown or filled out yet, but he’s got a lot of potential and a good heart. He’s a spotted horse, lightweight but his family held the Bay a number of years ago. Let me know if he causes any problems for you. I doubt he will.” Magnus had been nothing but trustworthy in the last year. Soljor was even considering binding them closer through the ties of family - entrusting him with one of the three girls. “And sorry about your second. Glad that scars are all he got out of it. Those wolves are nasty creatures. I almost wish something bigger would come through and scare them all off to the Crossing.”

He almost regretting saying it, remembering the strange tracks he’d found a few days earlier. So far, he’d seen nothing other than that one set. But Dogun should know about this as well.

“Dogun,” He said, his voice serious. “I will say that I spotted a strange set of tracks about two days ago. They were on the Bay’s northern border. Very large tracks, front limbs seemed to be different from the hind limbs. It took two of my strides to match every one of it’s. Be on alert. It had claws, so I can only assume it is some sort of large predator.” He could only hope that something so big chose to stay quiet and far away. “I’ve never seen tracks like this before. It concerns me, but I haven’t seen any creature that is unusual yet.” Another few sets of eyes would bee a good thing. Perhaps they could figure this out as a island and learn where to avoid.
