Ade had given a nod upon his first question, not minding the proposal to walk with him. It was better than wandering the shore and his company didn’t seem so bad. Steel grey legs pull the mare to his bay side and she moves to walk beside of him, not touching but keeping relatively close. It was there that she found the stallion was not much taller than him, and Adelaide easily matched her stride with his. All the while her brown orbs drifted across the sea of sand before them.




“Maslakhat” she says, testing out his name on her tongue. It was strange and felt awkward coming from her lips and she gave him an amused look as her gaze drifted back towards him. “You can call me Ade if there is something shorter I may call you by?” she offers. Some had thought Adelaide was hard to pronounce and that is when she had adopted the name of Ade for short. Much easier to say and remember. Adelaide could only imagine how many others had pronounced his name wrong.




As they approached the small pool of water shaded by a scraggly old tree that still managed to hold a few leaves, Adelaide cautiously approached the water’s edge. Ears forward and eyes alert it was the tales of creatures that hid beneath the surface that crowded her mind now. But as she took in a heavy breath and did not smell anything like death, Ade let her front legs sink into the water’s clutches and pressed her grey lips to its surface. She could feel her hooves sinking into the mud and once she had slacked her thirst she quickly pulled them free with a loud sucking sound. Mud clung to the limbs but she didn’t seem to mind, finding it worth it now that she was no longer thirsty.
