Sandusky (OH)-This weekend (October 10th-12th), the famed half-mile Sandusky Speedway will play host to one of the most prestigious events in outlaw super late model racing, the 27th running of the Main Event 100 lap race. This year's installation of the annual Great Lakes Helicopter Services Main Event Racing Series season finale will pit roughly forty of the best late model drivers in the country against each other to compete for a $10000 payday. The twenty-three starters who don't win the race will be guaranteed a cool $1000 to start the feature event Sunday afternoon. Eight cars will lock their way into the feature through single car qualifications Saturday afternoon, followed by two cars locking in from each of three heat races Saturday evening. The final ten cars will be taken from either the last chance qualifier (6 cars) and 4 points provisionals. This event will also decide who wins the Main Event Racing Series championship, as Harold Fair Jr.'s #71 leads by forty-two markers over the #21 of Drew Charlson. Charlson can make up that ground with Fair's slightest slip-up to take the points championship.
The BioBased.US Midwest Supermodified Association presented by Adkins Glass will also be in attendance with a healthy field of the world's fastest offset purebred racing machines, the winged supermodifieds. Nearly twenty of the MSA supers will be on hand for the forty lap season finale. Going into the season finale, three time defending MSA points champion Trent Stephens leads the points race by twenty-three markers over two drivers who are tied for the runner up points position, multi-time MSA champion Charlie Schultz and overall Lorain County Speedway track record holder Kyle Edwards. Mathematically, Schultz or Edwards could both upset Stephens' seemingly impending "fourpeat" in MSA points history, as a driver can make up well over thirty points on another in a night of racing, given everyone involved qualifies and starts the feature.
The always entertaining modified division will also be on hand with roughly thirty-five cars committed. This stellar field is due primarily to the outstanding purse that race supporters have donated to make the 40 lap affair worth $4000 to win and $200 to start. 2014 Sandusky Speedway Ghostly Manor Thrill Center modified division points champion Matt Marlowe and 2014 Lorain County Speedway modified division points champion Kenny Phillips will do battle with the likes of Michigan standouts Travis Eddy and Jordan Pruitt and many, many more to make for a night of racing not soon to be forgotten. Topping off the racing action will be FWD Hobby Stocks with a purse of $300 to win and $50 to start sure to draw a healthy field of the entry level racecars for their Saturday night feature. Replies:
